Seniors victorious in Championship opener
The Senior team opened their championship campaign today with a 4-9 to 1-4 win over Durham at Centennial Park this afternoon.
Things got off to a slow start and Durham raced into a 1-3 to 0-0 leads after twenty minutes. Two quickfire goals from Darren Burke and Wayne Coffey and a point from Tomas Crowe had the lads one point up at half time 2-1 to 1-3.
Things started to click in the forward line in the second half with two points from Cathal Kenny and a pointed free from Mark Downey. From the resultant kick out the ball was won by the midfield and worked into the inside forward line which was coolly finished to the net by Neil Moynihan which left the score 3-5 to 1-4.
In the final ten minutes – there were further scores from the impressive Sean Egan kicking 4 points from play before Moynihan grabbed the last goal of the contest with the last kick of the game.
